John Peter fonds. [1928-1969].

The fonds consists of records relating to Peter's teaching and research activities, including research grant applications, letters of recommendation and lists of bibliographic citations; notes, outlines, fragments, notebooks, manuscripts and galleys for "Along That Coast", "Take Hands at Winter" and "Runaway", as well as unpublished novels by Peter and correspondence with publishers regarding "Along That Coast" and "Runaway".

John Desmond Peter was born in South Africa. He studied law and English literature at Oxford and later at Rhodes University and the University of South Africa, obtaining his Ph.D. from Rhodes. He published his doctoral thesis as "Complaint and Satire in Early English Literature". Peter came to Canada in 1950 and for 11 years taught English at the University of Manitoba. George Cuomo was born in New York City. He received a BA from Tufts University in 1952 and an MA from Indiana University in 1955.
